AHA BLS Provider Refresher

Course Overview

The American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Instructor-led Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.  In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

 

Course Length and Format

  • Full BLS Provider Course takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing
  • BLS Renewal Course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, including skills practice and testing

*Course time based on 1 instructor: 6 student: 2 manikins (Min 4 students and Max 8 students per class)

Course Content

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
    • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
    • Use of an AED
    • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
    • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
    • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

 

Audience

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), for 2.50 Basic CEHs, activity number 16-AMHA-F3-0302.

BLS Renewal Course
Continuing Education Accreditation – Emergency Medical Services 

This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), for 2.25 Basic CEHs, activity number 18-AMHA-F2-0001.

**CAPCE credit must be claimed within 6 months of attendance. CME/CE credit will no longer be available to claim for this activity after the 6-month claiming period

 

Certification Card

An electronic card ** or ** a hard-copy card will be mailed/emailed to the student or available at main office within 7 business days after completion of the course. A certificate of completion (valid proof of completion according to the AHA Program Administration Manual aka PAM while the card is being produced by training center) will be available immediately upon successful course completion. The certification is good for 2 years to the end of month of the calendar month initially certified. Duplicate cards are available for an addiitional charge.

 

Required Text

A text (per the AHA) must be available before during and after course. A student not arriving with the course textbook will be required to purchase a book upon arrival of course with no exceptions. Current textbook is found here:
